social security number. Travis entered all the requested
information.
• A phone call was received after Travis submitted the
information. The unknown caller told Travis to have his
package delivered he would need to supply gift cards.
• Travis was instructed to purchase $1,000.00 in gift cards
from various retail stores. Travis proceeded to visit the
local Walgreens Store and purchase two VISA gift cards
for $250.00 each. He then went to Wal-Mart and
purchased two Green Dot gift cards for $250.00 each.
• Once the gift cards were purchased, Travis scratched the
access codes on the back and sent pictures of the gift
cards to the unknown caller.
• When Travis inquired with the unknown caller regarding
the package, the phone number was no longer in service.
• Travis was not expecting a package.
• Directed to visit a specific website.
• Asked to enter personal identifying information to
receive a package.
• Instructed to purchase gift cards.
• Instructed to send pictures of gift card numbers and
access codes.
• Phone number no longer in service.
• STOP communicating with the individual.
• COMMUNICATE with your financial institution.
• ALWAYS question if you are expecting a package.
• ALWAYS do your own research before clicking on
links.
• NEVER purchase gift cards unless they are truly for a
gift. You should not have to pay in gift cards
